Domestic Violence Awareness

Alpha Chi Omega's history is rooted in generosity, compassion and commitment to our sisters and the greater good. On top of helping to support the philanthropic causes of our fellow Panhellenic organizations, members are dedicated to raising awareness and educating others about our own cause, domestic violence. This issue is one we stand behind as something that affects women all over the world. Together, we work to fight against unhealthy relationships and build healthy relationships. Members serve individuals and families impacted by domestic violence through fundraising and gifts of time and talents for shelters and other service-providing organizations. Alpha Chi Omega also works to educate its own members, giving them tools to build their own healthy relationships, and to raise awareness of domestic violence by educating others on the impacts of and work being done to end it.

The women of Pi Chapter donate time and funds raised in philanthropy events to Ruby's Place in Hayward, California, a bay area crisis shelter providing shelter and supportive services for families and individuals experiencing domestic violence, and more recently human trafficking. The shelter supports people of all genders, backgrounds, and sexual orientations. We also feel strongly about educating our campus and community about domestic violence and its harmful effects. We provide educational resources at many of our philanthropy events and many of our chapter women are involved in related campus groups, advocating for a safer environment for women, particularly on college campuses.

Though not everyone knows a woman or child who has been impacted by domestic violence, everyone knows at least one woman that they care about. Awareness about domestic violence is important because it is a major global issue that deserves a strong voice. The women of Alpha Chi Omega stand behind this cause to help make our community and the world a safer and more positive place for all people.
